About Becoming Untangled
I am sharing my story as a vulnerable 54 year old woman with the titles of mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend and counselor. I hit a patch in my late 40's when I wrestled with a life altering question - "What is happening to me?" It all seemed to sneak up on me out of nowhere - and no one told me it coming!!!!! After reading books, talking to my doctor and allowing in friends and family, I have begun to learn about ALL the transitions that accompany menopause. I am learning menopause is complexities that far surpass hot flashes and weight gain. So many changes are happening in our brain (along with the rest of our body). Concurrent to this is numerous life transitions being faced during these same years (the reality of an empty nest, carrying for aging parents, redefining a marital relationship) and asking in a new and different way ..... WHO AM I?
The word that immediately came to my mind as I wrestled with this question is ... TANGLED. I found myself caught up in the complexities, contradictions and chaos of my mere existence. It did finally begin to hit me. I was caught up (or TANGLED ) in a web of emotions, responsibilities and shifts in relationships that I did not know were coming. From this was the birth of the web page, Becoming Untangled.
As I write this, I bring a 30-year career in the human service field, with a specialty for working with at-risk youth and families who often become involved in the Family Court system. In addition to a degree in Clinical Psychology, I am a licensed Mental Health Clinician and hold an Master of Business Administration.
I hope to use this platform as a place to share thoughts and stories and allow others to have a place to express themselves. Yes, we can learn and grow from each other. Having spent my own time in therapy, I have learned about struggles to verbalize and articulate (in the spoken word) thoughts, feelings and experiences which are common to so many. My preference is to write (and often re-write) about things currently impacting me, my life, my family (and sometimes the world).
The thoughts and opinions shared on this page are solely mine and do not represent any social or professional organizations with which I may be affiliated.
